In continuous production since 1979, the G-Class is a true automotive icon, setting the benchmark for off-road performance. Now, this legendary 4x4 has undergone a transformation, including a major interior overhaul — and the results are extraordinary.
As with previous models, the cabin blends luxurious refinement with rugged functionality. It retains a number of signature G-Class details too, such as the grab bar on the dashboard and the familiar chrome differential lock buttons. But this latest G-Class also features a range of distinctive new design elements, from round air vents that echo the new-look headlamps, to the redesigned instrument panel featured as standard.
Premium materials and finishes include exquisite leather upholstery and open-pore wood trim, and there’s a wealth of advanced technology on offer. The steering wheel, for example, boasts new Touch Control buttons that respond to swiping motions, just like a smartphone.
Other highlights include the optional widescreen display, as seen on the S-Class and E-Class, with its virtual instrument panel and choice of display styles. And the optional Burmester® surround sound system, featuring 16 speakers and a 590 watt amplifier with Digital Sound Processing.
Launching in 2018, the new G-Class will also offer even more practicality and space, including an extra 150 mm leg room for rear seat passengers and an additional 68 mm elbow room in the front.
