The Mercedes-AMG high-performance stable has produced some extraordinary vehicles in recent years: not least the sensational SLS AMG. But even by their own remarkable standards, the new Mercedes-AMG GT is something very, very special.
Handcrafted by racers, it’s a thoroughbred sports car, a celebration of the sheer joy of driving. With its sublime styling, supremely balanced handling, and breathtaking performance, the Mercedes-AMG GT is a Gran Turismo in the grand tradition. Equally at home on the race track, the autobahn, or winding mountain passes, it combines blistering acceleration – 0-62 mph in as little as 3.8 seconds – with exemplary long journey comfort.
Lightweight construction and front mid-engine design ensures optimum weight distribution, making the Mercedes-AMG GT incredibly fleet-footed yet perfectly poised. You can even tailor driving characteristics to suit your taste, while the aviation-inspired cockpit exemplifies high-performance luxury. And then there’s the sound of the engine at full roar that just has to be heard to be believed.
First, the engine. A muscular 4.0-litre V8 biturbo, it produces 476 hp, 630 Nm of torque and powers the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.0 seconds. Opt for the Mercedes-AMG GT S Coupé and the figures are even more remarkable: boasting an uprated 522 hp and 670 Nm, it clocks 0-62 mph in an eye-watering 3.8 seconds.
But sports car performance is about more than just straight line speed: it’s about balance and agility, touch and response. And the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé delivers on all counts.
Its front-mid mounted engine layout provides an optimal weight distribution between the front and rear axles of 47% to 53%. So you enjoy incredibly agile, assured handling. It’s extremely lightweight too – crafted largely from aluminium and carbon fibre, the bodyshell weighs just 231 kg. Yet it retains excellent torsional rigidity, ensuring outstanding stability and driving dynamics.
AMG bodystyling. 19” AMG alloy wheels. Silver painted brake calipers. Electrically extending rear aerofoil. ‘GT’ lettering on the boot lid. These are just a few of the design features that make the Mercedes-AMG GT model so desirable.
Also included, the AMG Speedshift DCT 7-speed sports transmission with a choice of 3 modes: ‘C’ (Comfort), ‘S’ (Sport), and ‘S+’ (Sport Plus). And the AMG Performance exhaust system, which adjusts the acoustics depending on your chosen drive mode: the sportier the set-up, the more dramatic the roar.
Inside, you’ll find AMG sports seats, the AMG Performance steering wheel in nappa leather, and a wealth of technology, including COMAND Online with media interface and a 8.4” colour display.
The Mercedes-AMG GT S model line not only offers uprated performance, it also has enhanced styling to match. There are 19” / 20” AMG alloy wheels, eye-catching red brake calipers, ‘GT S’ badging, and an AMG Performance steering wheel trimmed in nappa leather / DINAMICA microfibre.
For an even more engaging driving experience, the GT S features AMG Speedshift DCT 7-speed sports transmission with a choice of 4 transmission modes. Using the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT CONTROLLER, choose from ‘C’ (Comfort), ‘S’ (Sport), ‘S+’ (Sport Plus), and ‘RACE’, which is designed to get you off the grid as quickly as possible.
To optimise ride quality and comfort, it also features the AMG electronic rear axle differential lock and AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with adjustable damper system.

One look at the new Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé is all it takes to appreciate the cars perfectly judged proportions and dynamic styling. The long, sweeping bonnet with expressive front section creates poise and presence from the front. The distinctive glasshouse, set far to the back of the car features a sloping ‘fastback’ roofline and tail which accentuate the wide, powerful rear. At once elegant and athletic, this is a car that simply demands to be driven.
Signature design features include the LED high-performance headlamps and the ‘V8 BITURBO’ lettering on the front wings. At the rear, there’s an electrically extending aerofoil, plus the switchable AMG Performance exhaust system, with two chrome-plated twin tailpipes providing a thrilling soundtrack to your journey.
With its front mid-engine layout and lightweight, largely aluminium construction, the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé offers sensational handling. The 47:53 front / rear weight distribution and low centre of gravity lend it effortless balance and composure, and the race-bred double wishbone suspension ensures outstanding agility and response.
Powering through curves and corners, the car feels planted and precise, while at higher speeds it is stable and assured. Steering and suspension provide plenty of feedback, letting you know just where the limits are – so you can have more fun exploring them.
Aerodynamics have been finely honed to enhance performance, with every surface and component designed to optimise air flow and traction. At higher speeds, an electrically extendable rear aerofoil serves to reduce lift.
