Customers with an older car to part exchange are quids in at Hughes Mazda after the local dealership announced the launch of a scheme offering up to £3,000 for their old banger.
‘Scrappage generated a lot of business for us,’ explained Richard Lodge, sales manager at the Farnham Common dealership, ‘and when it finished we found that a lot of people were disappointed. Some of them didn’t take advantage of scrappage but have now found that their existing car needs expensive repairs. Without a scheme like this they’d never afford a new car. As one of the largest dealer groups in the area we thought that we should do whatever we could to help them.’
Unlike the government scheme which required cars to be ten years old, under Hughes programme any car over seven years old at the point of order is eligible. In addition, customers will not be excluded from taking advantage of low rate finance offers, as they were when scrappage was running.
‘We’ve really pushed out all the stops on this one,’ says Richard. ‘The fact is that we’re a large dealer and can withstand an aggressive programme like this. In the long run it should actually pay off because additional customers attracted by the scheme will hopefully use Hughes for years to come’.
Part exchange allowances vary depending upon which of the new Mazda models is chosen with £1,000 on a Mazda2, £1,500 on a Mazda3, £2,000 on a Mazda MX-5, £2,500 on a Mazda6 and £3,000 on a Mazda5. To be eligible customers must have owned the car being part exchanged for a minimum of three months and must have at least three months MOT remaining.
